Summertime!!

It's finally here and boy do we have plans at the farm!

The vegetable garden has been planted. It doesn't look like much yet but give it a few weeks!
The chickens are growing like crazy and I am still in love with them!


The dye pots are simmering almost daily........

The kids are enjoying David's new pet........


And the flower gardens are desperately in need of attention.


Yeah, it's bad and there are three more that are in just as bad of shape. You see, when our son died, everything got neglected. Now it's time to get to work and restore these gardens to their former beauty!! Today I am going to sit down with pencil and paper and plan!

Back from the mill!

All the raw fleeces are now sold or just waiting for payment (those of you who on the waiting list will be notified if they fall through) and the rest of the fiber was delivered to the mill in Frankenmuth yesterday. We will have Finn and Jacob roving and a beautiful blend of Cormo/Alpaca and silk combed top available in a couple of months!

I am also working my way through the raw fiber I kept and making some yummy batts like this:
In the next couple of days I will have pictures posted of the lambs we have available for sale.

Wow, the lamb fleeces sold fast! For those of who who are still hoping to get your hands on some cormo we are making the trip the mill on Tuesday with the bags of fiber to be made into combed top and roving for your spinning adventures :) I have decided to try my hand at showing and am prepping Herman's fleece to be entered (we'll see if I change my mind!).

Now that breeding, lambing and shearing is done it is time for reflection. All in all we are happy with our first year. Not because everything went right; but because we learned from our mistakes. Some lessons were hard but they were lessons nonetheless. We have chosen to focus on the blessings: we have 6 six healthy lambs bouncing around the farm (two of which are sold), the wool crop was enough that we will be able to pay for feed for next year (providing it sells of course) and right now everyone is trimmed, wormed, coated and happily pastured. .....and looking a bit naked.......



We will be using Herman to breed the Cormos next year and plan to breed all six registered ewes along with Leah the Cormo/Border Leicester cross. My husband and I can not agree on the Jacobs. I want to continue the pure line, he wants to put all our focus on the Cormos and not invest in a new Jacob ram. Bobbi is travelling to New York to pick up a registered Finn ram so next year's Finn lambs will be registered. On that note, she does have two rams for sale: Alex is the ram she used last year and Zucchini was born this year. He is a beautiful white and black lamb. I will have sheep for sale listed on our website soon.

Raw Cormo Lamb Fleece for Sale

Email me at countingsheepfarm[@]yahoo[.]com if you are interested in any of the fleeces. We accept paypal or money order. All fleeces were coated this year and we are quite pleased with them! They have been heavy skirted and are sold by the half pound.


These are the lamb's first fleeces and will be their softest. There will be a bit of vm and milk tips on the fleece. The staple length on this fleece is 4 inches. 8 ounces is $9.00 plus shipping

Shearing Day!!

Shearing Day is finally here.....just two more hours and the activity begins! Anna is not sure what to think.....

Honeybees!

We love our honeybees!! Tending to their needs is often a family affair. These gentle girls rarely get upset with us and in two years there have only been two or three bee stings. We started out with two hives last year, this year we added two more hives.
